Weber County School District Superintendent Jay Taggart, this year's Utah superintendent of the year, has announced his retirement, effective July 1.

"He told the board last night and the staff this morning that his last day will be June 30," administrative secretary Gayleen Simpson said Wednesday. "The board said they will have a new superintendent by July 1."Taggart, president of the Utah School Superintendents Association, has been head of the Weber district for seven years. He also served as superintendent of the Morgan School District for as many years.

"I am particularly proud of some of the board's accomplishments in the past seven years," Taggart said in a letter to the board.
