An ordinance designed to improve cable television service will be the subject of a public hearing Tuesday, April 18, before the Salt Lake City Council in City Hall, 324 S. State.

The proposed ordinance would require the city's current cable franchise, TCI Cablevision of Utah Inc., to complete 95 percent of all repairs within 15 days. It would extend service anywhere there is a sufficient number of subscribers or where customers are willing to pay the cost of an extension.Additionally, the ordinance would raise the current franchise fee of 2 percent of TCI's gross revenue to 5 percent, increasing city revenue from cable contracts from $70,000 to $170,000.

The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Also on the agenda, City Councilwoman Roselyn Kirk will present the Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award recognizing the city for its recently opened homeless shelter.
