A Soviet submarine taking part in naval maneuvers got caught in the fishing net of a Danish trawler in the Baltic Sea and had to be cut loose, the official Tass news agency said Friday.

The incident took place April 4 during joint maneuvers with the East German navy and three days before a Soviet nuclear submarine caught fire and sank off Norway, the news agency said. Forty-two sailors died in the Norwegian Sea accident.Tass said ships escorting the submarine displayed warning flags indicating underwater maneuvers were under way and that vessels in the area were warned by radio to exercise caution.

Tass said there were no injuries and that the trawler was undamaged.
