Utah's four major commercial television stations have banded together to launch a major promotional campaign aimed at potential advertisers.
The Television Association of Salt Lake, comprising stations KSL, KSTU, KTVX and KUTV, has hired local advertising agency Fotheringham & Associates to handle the campaign."They (the association members) want to bring in new advertising dollars and get those already committed to increase their share," said association spokesman and agency president Robert Fotheringham.
Advertising revenue for television has been flat as cable television and other communication mediums have divided up the market's advertising dollar.
"They are looking at ways to stimulate growth in advertising revenue," Fotheringham said of the association's promotional project. He said commercial television stations in other markets have tried similar marketing approaches. "This is not something unique to Salt Lake."
The television ads, which will begin airing on all four stations sometime in July, will promote television as a sales tool, without comparing it to other media, Fotheringham said.
