The fastidiously clean city of Tokyo has come up with an appropriate gift for its sister city, Beijing, to mark the 10th anniversary of their relationship - 30 used garbage trucks and two used street sweepers.

Tokyo Governor Shunichi Suzuki will tell Beijing Mayor Chen Xidong of the gift when he visits Beijing Saturday and will assure Chen that the 7-year-old trucks will be clean, in working order and freshly painted before delivery, said Tokyo city spokesman Norihiko Saeki.Tokyo, which usually sends garbage trucks to scrap collectors after seven years, will spend $150,000 restoring the ones it gives Beijing, Saeki said.

The Tokyo metropolitan government donated 30 restored garbage trucks to Beijing between 1986 and 1988, and Beijing said the trucks were useful, Saeki added.
