Residents living in the optional attendance area for McMillan Elementary School have until May 1 to declare whether their children will attend McMillan or Longview Elementary School.

The Murray Board of Education set the deadline Wednesday night after deferring a decision on the boundary issue for more than a month. After May 1, all children living in the optional area will be required to attend Longview. The optional area runs from approximately 450 East to Ninth East and from 59th South to 61st South.

Board members said after a decision has been made, it cannot be changed. Residents whose children are still too young to attend school can elect to send their children to McMillan in the future if they declare their intentions by the May 1 deadline.

The new boundary will be enforced for the 1989-90 school year.
