The Davis County United Way raised a record $582,739 as part of its 1988 campaign.
Roe Walker, campaign chairman and manager for General Dynamics, announced the final results at a recent salute to campaign volunteers. While contributions where about $5,000 below the campaign goal of $588,000, the figure was a 6.2 percent increase over the previous year's total.Walker praised the team work involved in accomplishing the goal. Twenty-one volunteers were part of the cabinet that spearheaded the drive.
Recognitions were presented to 54 employee groups having a 25 percent pledge increase over the previous year. Also 90 employee groups were recognized for earning the Gold Award.
Twelve major companies received the Major Contributor Award for pledges over $10,000 with more than 50 percent employee participation. Those include Davis School District, Albertson's warehouse, Chevron USA, Utility Trailer Inc., Eaton-Kenway, Allied Aftermarket, Smith Management Corp., Hercules Inc., All American Gourmet, Mountain Fuel Supply Co., Phillips Petroleum Co. and Computer Science Corp.
