Soldiers shot and killed at least five Arabs and wounded 18 Thursday during a pre-dawn raid on a West Bank village in one of the bloodiest incidents of the Palestinian uprising, hospital officials said.

Palestinian sources said at least one other Arab had been killed and immediately buried in the village of Nahalin and up to 40 people had been wounded. The reports could not be independently confirmed.Several Palestinians waiting outside the Beit Jala hospital where the dead and wounded were taken described the military raid as a massacre.
