The Brigham Young University dance department's Ballroom Dance Company will be host to the Soviet Union in a team match dance competition Friday and Saturday at the annual BYU International Ball.

Dancers from the Soviet Union will compete in Latin and ballroom categories as well as perform a showcase of Russian folk dances. The four couples visiting BYU have been awarded top amateur titles throughout the world."It has taken a lot of time and effort to obtain clearance for the dancers to come to the United States," says Lee Wakefield, artistic director of the Ballroom Dance Company. "We are doing all we can to make their experience at BYU just as exciting for them as their visit will be for us."

Competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the Wilkinson Center. Preliminary events will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and culminate with finals at the International Ball, 6:30 p.m. in the Wilkinson Center Ballroom.

Tickets are available at Room 263 of the Richards Building, or call the dance department, 378-4623. One-day passes range from $4-$9, two days from $6-$16.
