Waterford School, which has been a private elementary school, will expand its program this fall to accommodate children in grades 9 to 12.
With incorporation of high school classes on the Waterford campus at 1480 E. 94th South, Sandy, the private operation will close its laboratory school in Provo, said Nancy Heuston, director. Many teachers from the Provo school will join the Sandy faculty, she said. The high school will emphasize a liberal arts curriculum that will include advanced placement courses, foreign languages and strong math and science programs. About 100 students are expected to enroll in the high school program. At present, 380 lower and middle school students attend the Sandy school.
An open house will be held May 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. to acquaint parents with the school and its faculty. Daily tours also can be arranged.
Waterford's approach to education incorporates heavy use of computers and other high technology.
