Five Chinese nationals were arrested on suspicion of smuggling $100 million worth of heroin into the United States in the latest case that authorities say confirms Chinese gangs have pushed the Mafia out of the heroin trade.

Federal agents posing as high-rolling dealers seized 23 pounds of unusually pure heroin Monday night and arrested five Chinese men from a "very young and violent" ring, officials said Tuesday. The heroin was seen as part of a tidal wave of "China White" heroin, which federal officials say has washed the Mafia out of the heroin trafficking business.

Just two months ago, authorities seized a record 838 pounds of Asian heroin in New York worth $1 billion and busted a major Chinese drug trafficking ring that operated in cities across the United States, in Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore.
