Juab County Sheriff Dave Carter has been presented with an award of appreciation by the Drug Enforcement Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Carter was presented with a plaque at the State Sheriff's Association meeting in Provo last week.The sheriffs from Cache and Grand counties were also honored.

Carter was presented with the plaque for outstanding work in the field of drug law enforcement. In the three years the drug enforcement program founded by Carter has been in effect, 11 marijuana gardens have been found in Juab County.

"The largest marijuana garden ever found in Utah was found in the West Desert by my department," said Carter. Carter said 1,137 high-quality plants were found in the Deep Creek Mountains.

One pound of marijuana now has a street value of $3,200.
