Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone and point guard John Stockton were honored as most valuable players Monday night in the Marriott Hotel by the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, an annual event to show appreciation for the team's contribution to the state.

Award recipients were selected by fan balloting during March, according to Fred S. Ball, chamber president and general manager.Other awards went to center Malone, best offensive player; Mark Eaton, best defensive player; Jim Farmer, favorite newcomer; Darrell Griffith, most improved player; Stockton, Mr. Hustle; Jose Ortiz, team spirit; and Thurl Bailey, community service.
