The West Virginia Senate says please, please, please free James Brown. The Senate adopted a just-for-fun resolution to send to South Carolina Gov. Carroll Campbell Jr., urging him to pardon the soul singer from prison, where he is serving six years for leading police on a two-state chase. "James Brown has supplied the people of West Virginia with the highest quality entertainment for over 25 years," the resolution said. "He is an excellent dancer and can do a full leg split while in mid-dance. . . . James Brown should be released by pardon so that he might be able to continue his tremendous career and his great ability to entertain, making all our lives a little happier." Nonetheless, the resolution is not official since it was adopted minutes after the 1989 session's midnight Saturday deadline.
