Frank Tripucka, father of Utah Jazz player Kelly Tripucka, overwhelmed and chased off a gunman who broke into his home this weekend, according to a published report.
The elder Tripucka told newspapers he awoke early Saturday morning to find a man standing over his bed with a gun in his hand. The gunman forced Tripucka, 60, and his wife, Randi, into the garage, apparently intent on taking one of their cars.
When the intruder put down his gun for a moment, Tripucka said he grabbed an ax handle and began striking the man. The would-be robber fled. Tripucka said that when he attacked the gunman, he also accidentally struck his wife, who required 14 stiches to close a wound on her head.
