Robert E. Randolph, formerly director of space structures and technology, has been named vice president and general manager of composite structures for Hercules Aerospace Co.

He will oversee the speciality structures development lab, the hi-tech structures facility and the carbon/carbon 3-D facility at Hercules Bacchus Works in West Valley City.Randolph was program manager for design and fabrication of the first NASA graphite/epoxy composite space structure for communication satellites and the antenna structure for the tracking and data relay satellites.

He joined Hercules in 1958 at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Cumberland, Md., and came to Utah with the start-up of the materials and structures work in 1971. He was manager of composite programs before being named director of space structures and technology.

In other changes within the composite structures division, Jimmie E. Romine and John C. Weidner were named directors of operations; Perry S. Bruno will be director of high temperature structures; Paul Kemp was named engineering manager and Ray Broadbent will be manager of business planning and administration.
