A 71-year-old man pleaded guilty on Tuesday in 2nd District Court to showing pictures of nude men to a 13-year-old boy last fall at the Lagoon amusement park in Farmington.

Wendell L. Rollins, Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty to attempted dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor, in a plea bargain with the Davis County attorney's office. He was orginally charged with dealing in harmful materials, a third-degree felony, and a Class C misdemeanor charge of giving false information to police. The second charge was dismissed as part of the plea negotiation.

Rollins admitted to Judge Douglas L Cornaby that he approached the youth on Sept. 4 at Lagoon and attempted to show him a magazine containing photos of nude men.

Defense attorney Glenn Cella said they agreed to the plea negotiation after a Davis County Mental Health examination determined Rollins is competent to stand trial and not mentally impaired.

Cornaby scheduled sentencing for May 2 on the misdemeanor charge, which carries a jail term of up to one year.
