Taiwan will send its first official delegation to mainland China next month to attend the 22nd annual conference of the Asian Development Bank in Beijing, the Foreign Ministry announced Thursday. The Taiwan group will participate in the conference as a "representative of the Republic of China in the international organization" and will not engage in direct contact with Chinese authorities during the May 4-6 meeting, the ministry said. It will be the first visit to mainland China by a Taiwan government delegation, a move that political analysts view as a significant step forward in Taiwan-China relations.
