An Air Force F-111 crashed Wednesday during a training exercise at the Nellis Bombing Range, killing the pilot and weapons systems officer, an Air Force spokesman said.

The crash occurred within the restricted bombing range in the Nevada desert, about 60 miles southeast of Tonopah, Nellis Public Affairs Officer Maj. Victor Andijauskas said.The aircraft was assigned to a U.S. Air Forces Europe unit based at the Royal Air Forces base at Lakenheath, England. The unit was participating in "Operation: Red Flag" exercises at Nellis Air Force Base.

The names of the crew members were being withheld pending notification of relatives. An Air Force board of officers is investigating the crash.
