The United States' only life-size statue of Colonel Sanders outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet was "kidnapped" for one week but was returned safely by college kids who stole it as a prank.

The 150-pound statue of Kentucky Fried Chicken's trademark figure was found late Friday on the University of Hawaii campus with a note indicating the "kidnapping" was a student prank.Three young men carried off the 150-pound plastic statue from the chain's Waikiki restaurant the weekend before. An anonymous telephone caller told police where to find it.

A police officer said the figure bore a note reading, "Hey, we have taken our exams and it's spring break. April Fool. Thank you."
