Thousands of anti-nuclear activists are expected to gather at the Nevada Test Site for a non-violent civil resistance action April 7-16.
"Reclaim the Test Site II," organized by American Peace Test, will focus on the need for a comprehensive test ban treaty.A group of Texas activists will attempt to build a house on the Test Site to dramatize the need for federal spending on the homeless problem rather than the arms race.
The 10-day initial Reclaim the Test Site action in March attracted more than 8,000 protesters and resulted in a record 2,065 arrests, American Peace Test said.
"We'll be out in the thousands to call attention to the fact that every three weeks they spend another $40 million on another test, with another chance for a deadly accident," said Chris Brown, action coordinator for the second protest.
Brown said a companion action will be taken in the Soviet Union.
