Former baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth has made a new pitch for strike-bound Eastern Airlines that could win the battle for the nation's seventh-largest carrier, airline industry and baseball sources said. Ueberroth traveled from his California home to New York on Tuesday night and expected an agreement would be announced Wednesday, barring another last-minute curveball from Texas Air Corp. Chairman Frank Lorenzo, the sources said. Terms of the agreement weren't known, and sources familiar with the deal said they were worried that Lorenzo might try to change them at the last minute. The offer was believed to be less than the $464 million that Ueberroth's group had offered and then withdrew last week.
