Coordinators for the 1989 Utah Arts Festival have been hired and efforts are under way to organize the event, which will run June 21-25 at the Triad Center.

Catharine Watkins has been named volunteer coordinator; Norma Tharp will handle publicity and media coordination; Deni Christian will do graphic design work; and Robyn Nelson is the new assistant director.Watkins has been a festival volunteer the past four years and is currently working toward a bachelor's degree in commercial recreation and a certificate of hospitality management at the University of Utah. She is an independent contractor for various tour companies and has worked for the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Tharp is a public relations and advertising consultant for Utah Coors distributors. She has worked as an account executive for Gardiner, a marketing company, and as advertising director for KUED television at the U. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from Purdue University and is past Utah chapter president of Women in Communications Inc.

Christian, who will design festival publications and advertising materials, has worked the past two years with Tandem Studios and was art director at Webster Publishing for six years. She has an extensive background in sculpture, ceramics and metal.

Nelson has a masters degree in fine arts from the U. and worked 10 years for AT&T, most recently in the company's marketing department. She served as an intern with the Salt Lake City Arts Council and last year worked as the festival's volunteer coordinator.
