For the fifth time in 14 appearances in the 21-year history of the Riverside Baseball Invitational, BYU made it into the title game.

The Cougars took a 18-8 overall record and a 4-1 RBI tourney record into the championship game late Saturday in a rematch against Arizona State after BYU beat Washington State 11-5 on Saturday afternoon.BYU defeated Washington State behind the pitching of junior Ed Zinter who struck out six and gave up seven hits and three runs. Pacing the BYU bats was a home run by Bruce Ellis and doubles by Randy Wilstead and Marc Di-Carlo.

BYU won the Blue Division at the RBI and now readies for a Tuesday game at 2 p.m. at the University of Utah in Western Athletic Conference action.
