Assertiveness communications classes, personal counseling, career counseling and workshops on strengthening the inner self are among the spring and summer class offerings at the Phoenix Institute, 18th S. West Temple.

The institute is a nonprofit community-based organization intended to address the needs of the changing work force by providing career development and training to individuals and organizations with a particular emphasis on services for economically disadvantaged women.The personal counseling is short term and focuses on the cognitive therapy approach. A sliding scale fee is available. The career counseling focuses on overcoming sex-based stereotyping and encourages participants to do and earn what they want, not what they "should."
