If you are in the market for Chinese herbs or health food products, you might want to check out Provo's Excel International.

Located at 533 South Fifth West, the company recently opened business selling imported Chinese health foods and latex gloves. The two products seem unrelated, but Jau-Fei Chen, co-owner of Excel, said they are her areas of expertise, and she expects them to bring success for the firm.

Chen - originally from Taiwan - has a doctorate in microbiology from Brigham Young University.

While Chinese herbs are Excel's specialty, the company sells latex examination gloves and sterile surgery gloves.

"We feel that there is a very good market for both of these products not only in Utah Valley but throughout the state," she said. "We would like to distribute in bulk, but we'll just have to see how things go. The distribution of our products is similar to Avon distribution.

The price of both lines of products will be reasonable and the quality is good, which will keep Excel competitive with similar products, Chen said.

The company will be able to cut down on importing costs because Chen's father, also a co-owner, travels frequently to China and Taiwan.

"We located in Provo because we know the area and we like the people," she said. "People are very kind here. They give me peace."
