Joe Mullen scored his 50th goal of the season and tied the NHL scoring record for an America-born player Friday night, leading the Calgary Flames to a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

The victory moved the Flames one point ahead of the idle Montreal Canadiens in the battle for the best record in the NHL.Mullen, a former Salt Lake Golden Eagle, reached the 50-goal plateau 52 seconds into the third period when he fired Doug Gilmour's pass into the net. The goal gave Mullen 107 points on the season, tying Jimmy Carson for the most points by an American. Carson recorded 107 points last year while playing for Los Angeles Kings.
