Sentencing for a man convicted of sexually abusing a 4-year-old boy was delayed for a week after the judge ran out of time.
Eugene Reiners, 68, who told children he was "Santa Claus," appeared Friday before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson, who postponed sentencing until next Thursday because of several scheduled divorce motions on Friday."It's crazy. I don't understand it," said deputy Salt Lake County attorney Tom Vuyk. "Why we're not as important as a few divorce attorneys I don't know."
Reiners was found guilty March 8 of two counts of sodomy upon a child and two counts of sexual abuse of a child.
Vuyk said he's upset that Reiners' sentencing was delayed. "The victim's family was there. I had to make a special effort to be there, and he just (Reiners) needs to get to prison and start serving his time."
Reiners remains free under the supervision of Pretrial Services.
