Gov. Norm Bangerter said Friday he doesn't want the Timpanogos Community Mental Health Center in Springville to hire back its former clinical director, who was fired in the midst of a probe concerning the misuse of public money at the center.

Dr. Richard Spencer - along with seven other administrators at the center - was suspended April 13 following allegations that more than $3.5 million was mismanaged. Spencer was fired Wednesday as a merit employee - and then was offered a contract to work 40 hours a week at $40 an hour.Bangerter said he can't condone the center's hiring back an individual who has been accused of misusing public funds.

"Until this investigation is complete, the center should make temporary arrangements to provide coverage through physicians who are not charged with misusing public funds."
