William Ernest Chappell, former Summit County commissioner, died March 30, 1989, at Humana Hospital in Layton. He was 83.
Mr. Chappell and his brother owned and operated Chappell Coal Mine until 1972. The brothers operated the mine, located 2.5 miles east of Coalville, for 38 years. The grandson of one of the town's earliest miners, Mr. Chappell always chose to work inside the mine.He also served as a Coalville city councilman. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
Funeral services are scheduled Monday at 1 p.m. in the Coalville Stake Center. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Coalville on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Coalville Cemetery.
