A Utah State University professor was honored as the 1989 Utah Teacher Educator of the Year on Friday by the Utah Association of Teacher Educators.
Izar Martinez, associate dean of USU's College of Education, was given the award during the annual conference at USU. Colleagues said Martinez "thrives on long hours, deadlines and challenges."Martinez is the former president of the Utah Association of Teacher Educators.
Educators also awarded the 1989 Exemplary Project in Teacher Education to the Ogden Area History Teaching Alliance for its work in bringing high school history teachers into sustained contact with colleagues at the college level.
The alliance, described as a "role model for life-long learning" was formed to create a greater understanding of history among the general public as it relates to the humanities.
