Sen. Lyle Hillyard, R-Logan, will represent Utah on a regional higher education commission.

The northern Utah attorney will serve on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, which represents the higher education interests of 15 states. Appointed by Gov. Norm Bangerter, Hillyard assumes the position immediately, replacing LaMont Richards.WICHE commissioners serve four-year terms.

Utah's two other representatives to WICHE are Wm. Rolfe Kerr, Utah higher education commissioner; and Steven E. Snow, vice chairman of the State Board of Regents.

Hillyard has served in the Legislature since 1981 and is co-chairman of the Executive Appropriations Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
