South High will celebrate its 57-year history with a week of alumni receptions, a dance and a commemorative program May 9-13.
The celebration for alumni and staff will focus on the positive contributions that South High has made to Salt Lake City and the state, said George Henry, director of student activities for South."In planning this week of celebration, we wanted to give our past and present teachers and students a chance to reminisce about their great school, and about the positive experiences they had in this beautiful, historic building," he said.
South will close in June. The Salt Lake Board of Education ordered the closure because of the city's dwindling high school enrollment.
The main program will be at 6:30 p.m. May 13 in the school, 1575 S. State. Alumni receptions will be held followed by a commemorative program at 8 p.m. A dance will be held at 9:30 p.m. Cost of the dance is $10 per couple.
South High students will present musical and theatrical productions in the "Expressions" program May 12. Throughout the week, memorabilia will be displayed.
