A dentist has been sentenced to 30 months' probation for forgery in a bizarre case involving a dead man whose mummified remains were tended by his family for nine years.

Knox County Judge Daniel Roberts opted for probation for Richard Kunce, 57, who lived for two years with the family of the dead man, Carl Stevens.Kunce, who has lost his license to practice dentistry, was convicted recently of witnessing a forgery of Stevens' signature, which was placed on a document by the widow, Carole Stevens.

During the hearing, both sides recalled how Carl Stevens' body was tended by his family and Kunce as if he were still alive.
