A Chinese warship will make its first call at an American port in April, the U.S. Embassy announced Friday, and a U.S. official said the United States probably would return the favor in mid-May.

On Friday, the Zheng He, a training ship of the People's Liberation Army, set sail for Pearl Harbor from Qingdao in Shandong province, and will arrive in Hawaii on April 11, the U.S. Embassy said.Ambassador Winston Lord and Defense Attache Brig. Gen. John A. Leide saw the vessel off. Vice Adm. Ma Xinchun, commander of the North Sea fleet, will accompany the ship on its U.S. port call, the embassy said.
