Salt Lake high school students may be paying larger fees next year, while intermediate students may see a slight decrease in their required textbook deposits.
A proposal before the Salt Lake Board of Education would increase high school activity fees from $20 to $25 and raise textbook deposits from $10 to $20. However, the textbook deposit for intermediate students would drop from $12 to $10.These fees can be waived in cases of financial hardship.
The proposal also calls for a new $4 fee for the intermediate school picture book, which is optional.
Assistant Superintendent Mary Jean Johnson said the proposal would leave other fees at their current rate.
The changes are being proposed based on a review of costs by school principals and school community councils, she said.
The school board will vote on the proposal at its April 18 meeting.
