Plea-bargain negotiations are under way between the Weber County attorney's office and a former general manager and vice president of a retail gasoline company accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from the now-bankrupt business.

Robert A. Dalton, 54, had been scheduled to change his plea to felony charges Wednesday in 2nd District Court. Dalton is charged with communications fraud, theft and unlawful activity by a director agent or officer. But Assistant Weber County Attorney Bill Daines asked for a continuance in the change of plea, saying there was a problem with the plea bargain negotiations. Second District Judge David Roth granted the continuance for one week.

Dalton and John Becker, 49, an accountant, are accused of misappropriating the money from Mountain Oil Co. during 1985 and 1986.

Becker faces the same three felony charges as Dalton, and his trial is scheduled to begin April 5.
