The American Red Cross' utility assistance program will end early this year because the cold weather in January and February drained the fund.

As of April 1, the program will provide service only to the elderly and those on life-support systems or with other life-threatening conditions that require continued utility service. The program has served 1,440 homes in Utah since July 1. Donations to the program can be made through the check-off system on utility bills or directly to the American Red Cross.
