Jordan High School is sponsoring a dance Friday from 8 to 11 p.m. that will end a week-long effort to honor a JHS alumni, Clyde Ross Morgan, a 1960 graduate who designed the statue for the Utah Vietnam Veterans Memorial to be built on the west Capitol grounds.

The dance, said Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee member James Slade, will raise money to help pay for the memorial, which will cost about $300,000. He said about 80 percent of the money has been raised. "We need about $65,000 to finish it," he said.Jordan High student body leaders every year pick an alumnus whom they believe has made an important contribution to life in the United States. The statue has catapulted Morgan to national prominence. As well as sculpting the statue for Utah's veterans memorial, he has been picked to sculpt the Tennessee Vietnam veterans memorial as well as work for prominent national organizations.

Donations to the memorial can be made to UEVMC, P.O. Box 18366, Salt Lake City UT 84118.
