James V. Olsen, president and chief executive of the Utah Retail Grocers and the Utah Association of Convenience Stores, has been elected president of the Utah Council of Retailers and Wholesalers.

Other new officers elected at the council's meeting Wednesday were vice president Steve T. Densley, president of the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce; secretary Preston N. Kearsley, president of the Utah Automobile Dealers Association; and treasurer Steve Lawson, president of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce.Irene Jourgensen was re-elected executive secretary of the organization comprised of trade associations representing more than 14,800 Utah retail and wholesale firms.

Olsen succeeds G. LaMont Richards, president and owner of Western Supply Co., who is retiring.

Olsen has been president of the Grocers Association since 1981 and joined the organization in 1978 as director of services. Before joining the URGA, he was a district executive and program director for the Boy Scouts of America.

A Brigham Young University graduate, Olsen is a member of the Food Industry Association Executives, the Utah Society of Association Executives, International Rotary Club and the Asparagus Club, which is restricted to representatives of food retailers, suppliers and state association executives.
