Wide receiver Chuck Cutler received three of six possible awards at the annual BYU football banquet at Cougar Stadium. Cutler was one of six players honored for selection to the Academic All-Western Athletic Conference team, was selected by the coaches as the outstanding wide receiver for last season and received the Robbie Bosco Most Courageous Award.
Five different offensive linemen received awards. Tackle John Hunter was given the first annual Cougar Helmet award for intense work habits; center Phil Nauahi was given a special leadership award; guard Brian White was selected as the outstanding offensive lineman; guard Don Busenbark was honored for his Academic All-WAC selection; and tackle Warren Wheat was selected as the team's best conditioned athlete.Bob Davis was selected as the outstanding linebacker; Tim Knight, the outstanding defensive lineman; Matt Bellini, offensive back; Rodney Rice, defensive back; and All-American punter Pat Thompson was selected as the outstanding special teams player.
Others honored for Academic All-WAC selection were Regan Hansen, Scott Peterson, Tim Clark and Sean Covey.
