The Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department has stationed a program coordinator in West Jordan and is expanding recreation programs inside the city.

Diane Ward, who now coordinates county-sponsored recreation programs from an office at West Jordan's public works complex, said new opportunities for children's rec-reation are in the works and programs for adults are also being investigated.Ward said she has 325 youngsters signed up for a new T-ball and machine-pitch baseball program and has had good success so far finding parents who are willing to be coaches.

Next she plans to develop a track program for youth ages 6 to 18 that would run from May through July.

A tennis program, started last year in West Jordan, is being expanded to include additional playing locations for adults and children as young as 8. Ward said she plans to run the tennis program June through August.

Also on the list is a summer day camp program for 6-to-12 year olds; and an after-school intramurals including tennis, football, softball and possibly karate classes.

A county survey will determine which activities are wanted most. To find out about programs or to offer help, contact Ward at 561-2352.
