Convicted murderer George Wesley Hamilton is being held in the Millard County Jail in Fillmore to stand trial a second time in the August 1985 slaying of a college coed.
He was transferred from the Utah State Prison, where he had been since he was found guilty of killing Sharon Sant, a Fillmore woman who was attending Southern Utah State College. Her mutilated body was found by a Utah Department of Transportation employee near Cove Fort. Parts of the body had been severed and some were never found.A retrial was granted by 4th District Judge George Ballif following an argument by Hamilton's legal counsel that a juror in the original trial brought a newspaper article about the case into the courtroom during deliberations.
Hamilton is scheduled to be tried in Fillmore, but another change of venue could be granted.
