Three alternative routes are available to motorists seeking to avoid a southern Utah mudslide that forced closure of U-14 east of Cedar City, says a Utah Travel Council official.
Director Jay C. Woolley said the alternate routes between I-15 and U.S. 89 will add about one hour to the usual travel time, but none are considered major detours. The alternate routes include U-20 between Beaver and Parowan, U-143 from Parowan to Panguitch and U-9 from I-15 north of St. George to Mount Carmel Junction.
Woolley said a fourth route, U-148 through Cedar Breaks National Monument, should be open by Thursday once state road crews finish plowing the road.
"The mudslide is an unfortunate occurrence," said Woolley. "But it really isn't causing any major travel disruptions."
