An opposition True Path Party deputy was shot and killed Wednesday by another legislator inside the Parliament building, Parliament officials said.

There was confusion over who shot Abdurrezzak Ceylan. The 37-year-old deputy died while undergoing emergency surgery for a chest wound. One official said Ceylan was shot when he tried to break up an argument between two other legislators.

"The prosecutor's office is investigating the shooting between two members of Parliament," Hilmi Aras, deputy speaker of Parliament, told reporters.

He said the shooting apparently resulted from a personal conflict between two deputies, but he did not identify them.
