More than 150 people participated in a "Save the Whales" march and rally in Logan during the weekend, as speakers urged a boycott of companies that buy fish meats from Iceland.

Iceland promotes the capture and marketing of whales despite a worldwide ban against the slaughter, said protesters, who marched Saturday in a demonstration co-sponsored by Peaceworks of Cache Valley and the Sierra Club.Ilona Japinnen, professor of languages and philosophy at Utah State University and one of the rally organizers, said American companies that use fish from Iceland should be boycotted because whaling would stop if it were no longer profitable.

"We were pleased when the parent company of Long John Silver's fish chain recently canceled a $9 million contract with Iceland."
