Boxing officials were mourning the death of an 18-year-old fighter who collapsed after a bout at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center last week. They also were questioning whether he should have been scheduled for two fights in one day.

Guydell Williams of Jackson, Tenn., died about noon Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina, three days after he collapsed. He had been on a life support system and had remained unconscious and in critical condition in MUSC's surgical trauma unit, a hospital spokesman said.

Williams collapsed Wednesday from a stroke after fighting two bouts in one day. His stroke was traced to a lack of blood flow to the brain due to an abnormality in a major artery, MUSC neurosurgeon Brian Cuddy said.
