Demolition crews may begin razing the Centre Theatre in downtown Salt Lake City April 4 to make way for a 14-story office tower scheduled for completion in March 1991, a development official said Tuesday.

Crews will begin assembling barricades Wednesday and will begin the 30- to 45-day demolition of the theater at Third South and State on April 4, said Richard Nordlund, spokesman for Broadway Centre Ltd.Construction will begin immediately after demolition, Nordlund said. The 14-story, 268,000-square-foot high rise will house a four-screen movie theater, office space and retail shops and cost $24 million.
