Contracts for road and curb, gutter and sidewalk construction along 13th West and 10755 South have been approved by the City Council even though the total cost of $256,952 exceeded the amount budgeted by nearly $53,000.
The city has set aside $204,000 in federal community development block grant money to pay for the project. City Administrator Richard Warne told the council that the city will receive an additional $56,000 in federal money in July that could be budgeted to cover the difference. He said Salt Lake County has agreed to advance the money to the city early to help get the project moving. The keep the project within budget, the council agreed to eliminate sidewalk construction on one side of 13th West. That should reduce the cost by an estimated $7,000, which will be set aside in a contingency fund.
