Some students who now attend overcrowded West Point Elementary will be attending underused West Clinton Elementary next year.
The Davis School Board voted to give final approval to plan at a meeting Tuesday night in Bountiful High School. The move affects 135 students living in an area roughly between Eighth North and 18th North and 45th West and 30th West. A 14-member task force of parents and administrators met three times and recommended the move, which will take effect next August.West Point Elementary currently has an enrollment of 744 - 93 more than the building was designed to house. An increase of 50 students last year and home construction in the attendance area suggests that the school's population will continue to climb, a task force report says.
At the same time, West Clinton Elementary has an enrollment of 410 - 56 percent of capacity. Under a law passed by the Legislature, school funding would be withheld from schools not at 70 percent of capacity.
